Question: I am using Dexterity 6.0 with source code control. I have installed the Dexterity Source Code Control Service locally and I am attempting to integrate with Visual SourceSafe, which is installed on a different server in our office. I have properly mapped the Dexterity Source Code Control Panel application to the SrcSafe.INI file on the correct machine and I have my Dexterity client setup with a Repository Name of LocalHost and my VSS username and password. However, when I click on the Validate Connection button, I am still getting an Unknown Error. What could be occurring?
Answer: When you have the DSCCS Service loaded locally and VSS installed on a different machine, you need to make sure that you have the Service configured properly with the logon information. In the Control Panel, open your Services and choose the Startup options on the DSCCS. Make sure that you have the Log On information set to This Account and enter your network domain\username and password. For the DSCCS service to connect to the VSS machine properly, it needs this information. After you have changed these settings, be sure to Stop and Start the Service again.
If you have DSCCS and VSS installed on the same machine, then you should be able to leave the Log On settings as System Account.
