When you install the slipstream version of Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 (SP4), you may experience one of the following symptoms, depending on whether you perform an attended installation or an unattended installation:
If you perform an attended installation, the Setup program stops responding (hangs) after Setup restarts the computer during the installation process.
If you perform an unattended installation, the installation is successfully completed. However, all installation options are unavailable, and no mouse pointer is displayed.
This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
An application programming interface (API) in Windows 2000 SP4 queries for a REG_MULTI_SZ registry value that is NULL.
Note This issue occurs specifically with the Japanese-language version of Windows 2000. However, it may also occur with any language version of a slipstream version of Windows 2000 SP4.
To resolve this issue, obtain the following hotfix. Integrate the files that are contained in this hotfix with the installation source files that you are using to install Windows 2000. Then, install Windows 2000 again.
