SUMMARY

This article discusses which emulation will work best with the Okidata Microline 590 printer.

Resolution

The Okidata Microline 590 printer has two possible emulations: Epson LQ and the IBM PPR. See the printer manual on how to determine the emulation and how to change the emulation.

1. Epson LQ emulation (Epson320.drv)

There is a driver bug where the 8.5 characters per inch (cpi) font has the same specifications as the 17cpi font, so the 17cpi reports print with an 8.5 cpi font. Adding Tolerance=0 to the Dex.ini file will get a 17cpi font.

With Tolerance=0, all reports print fine except 80 character 10 cpi reports which wrap the text to the next line. A horizontal adjustment will solve the wrapping, but you lose the first character on the left.
With Tolerance=0, all reports print fine except 10cpi reports. Printing of Checks, Statements, and Invoices will print correctly, but possible problems may occur with the printing of W-2 statements and 1099 statements.

2. IBM PPR emulation (Ibm320.drv)

80 character 10 cpi reports wrap characters to the next line. A horizontal adjustment fixes the wrapping, but you lose the first character on the left.

Problems may occur with the printing of W-2 statements and 1099 statements. All other reports will print correctly.
