The screen saver does not start if the Windows Security dialog box is open in Windows XP

If you have the Windows Security dialog box open on your Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based or Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer, the screen saver does not start as expected. Instead, the desktop is displayed.

  • When you start Task Manager and then click the Applications tab, the screen saver process appears to be running.
  • When you press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, you receive a message that your computer is locked.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
