When you use the SMSMan.exe utility to manually install the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Legacy Client on a client computer, the client software is not installed. When this problem occurs, the following entry is logged in the %Windir%\MS\SMS\Logs\WNManual.log file:
CAP is SMS 2.0 - ~ $$<\\CAP server name\NETLOGON\SMSMAN.exe> Verifying the OS Configuration~ $$<\\CAP server name\NETLOGON\SMSMAN.exe> ERROR: CAP path is not a UNC~ $$<\\CAP server name\NETLOGON\SMSMAN.exe>
This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
The path to the client access point (CAP) is corrupted or is not correct.
Note This path is obtained from the Capinst.exe utility.
The CAP is not available when SMSMan.exe tries to install the Legacy Client software.
To resolve this problem, make sure that the CAP is running and that the client can access the CAP.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
