When you try use the http://SmallBusinessServerName/ConnectComputer Web site to connect a client computer to your Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer, you are not successful. In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:
The list of users and computers could not be found on the server. Make sure that the Small Business Server network adapters are configured correctly.
This problem occurs if the Domain Name Service (DNS) is incorrectly configured in the internal network.
If DNS is incorrectly configured in the internal network, the client Setup program cannot locate the Windows Small Business Server-based computer. For example, the problem occurs if DNS is configured to point to your Internet service provider (ISP) instead of to your Windows Small Business Server-based computer.
Note In this scenario, if the client computer has more than one network adaptor, and one of these enabled network adaptors is not connected to the network, you may not receive an error message.
To resolve this problem, configure the DNS settings on the client computer to point to your Windows Small Business Server-based computer. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
Disable all the network connections that are not connected to a network. To do this, right-click the network connection, and then click Disable.
Right-click the network connection that is connected to your Windows Small Business Server internal network, and then click Properties.
Double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Use of the following methods:
To configure the client computer to obtain DNS server information from the Windows Small Business Server-based computer, click Obtain DNS server address automatically.
To specify your Windows Small Business Server-based computer as the DNS server, click Use the following DNS server addresses, and then type the IP address of your Windows Small Business Server-based computer in the Preferred DNS server box.
Click OK two times.
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type ipconfig /flushdns, and then press ENTER.
Type ipconfig /registerdns, and then press ENTER.
