This article has been archived. It is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
Consider the following scenario:
  • You use a program that runs NetBIOS functions.
  • The program runs for a long time.
  • You run this program on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4)-based computer.
In this scenario, the computer may stop responding (hang). Then, you receive a Stop error message that is similar to the following:
STOP 0x00000041 MUST_SUCCEED_POOL_EMPTY (0x1000,0x440,0x2E,0x1)
Note The four parameters in this error message may vary.
This problem occurs because of a pool memory leak in the Netbios.sys driver.
