FIX: The performance of the computer system and the performance of Visual Studio .NET 2003 decrease when you compile a large solution that contains many projects in Visual Studio .NET 2003

When you compile a large solution that contains many projects in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, the performance of the computer system and the performance of Visual Studio .NET 2003 decrease. After you compile the solution several times, the solution may not compile. Additionally, you may receive an error message that states that there is insufficient memory to complete the compilation.

Note The solution may contain Visual Basic .NET projects, Microsoft Visual C# projects, and Microsoft Visual C++ projects.
This problem occurs if one of the following conditions is true:
  • Visual Studio .NET 2003 leaks memory during the compilation of sources when you use declarative security within C# code.
  • An unsafe function is builtby using the Allow unsafe code blocks option.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.
