You notice an increase in event and performance data latency after you upgrade the MOM 2005 Server OnePoint database to Microsoft SQL Server 2005

This article has been archived. It is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
Symptoms
After you upgrade the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Server OnePoint database to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, you notice an increase in event and performance data latency. Additionally, if you use the SQL Profiler tool, SQL trace flag 1204, or SQL trace flag 1222 to monitor the computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2005, you notice an unusually high number of deadlocks.
Cause
This problem occurs because of a change in the way that SQL Server 2005 handles the TABLOCK hint when SQL Server 2005 processes bulk insert operations.

More information
MOM 2005 uses the TABLOCK hint for bulk inserts into the OnePoint database. The way that SQL Server 2005 handles the TABLOCK hint differs from the way that SQL Server 2000 handles the TABLOCK hint. The change causes lots of deadlocks for some of the operations that MOM performs. Overall, these deadlocks do not have a significant affect on the event and performance data latency results. However, if you have an unusually high volume of incoming event and performance data, the changes to the TABLOCK hint can cause the number of deadlocks to reach a level that can cause latency issues.
