E-mail is sent through an Exchange Server 2003 account instead of through an SMTP/POP account

You reply to or forward an e-mail from a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol/Post Office Protocol (SMTP/POP) e-mail account. When you do this, the e-mail may be sent through the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 e-mail account instead of through the SMTP/POP e-mail account. This problem may occur even though the SMTP/POP e-mail account is set as the default account in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003.

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Hotfix Package that is dated June 6, 2006. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

This hotfix correctly stamps new messages only. Therefore, all existing messages that were sent without this hotfix are still sent through an Exchange 2003 account instead of through an SMTP/POP account.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
