A High Speed SD Secure Digital card does not work correctly in a Windows XP-based computer

Support for Windows XP has ended

Microsoft ended support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. This change has affected your software updates and security options. Learn what this means for you and how to stay protected.

When you connect a High Speed SD Secure Digital card to a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, you experience one of the following symptoms:
  • The card is not detected.
  • The card is at first detected, but it later becomes unavailable.
  • Device Manager displays a yellow exclamation mark and the following error message for this card:
    Code 10 - the device cannot start.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
