Stop error message when an application draws the bitmap by using the mask in Windows XP Service Pack 2: "0x50 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may receive a Stop error message when an application draws the bitmap by using the mask. The Stop error message resembles the following:
0x50 {e4939000, 0, bf971fe6, 1}
Note The Stop error message may occur in the following processes:
  • win32k!prunPlgRead32
  • win32k!prunPlgRead24
  • win32k!prunPlgRead16
  • win32k!prunPlgRead8
This problem occurs because some functions in Windows XP SP2 access invalid locations that exceed the mask bitmap buffer. The buffer is exceeded because the pointer is increased more than is required.

Hotfix information
