You cannot see a video camera in the Scanners and Cameras item in Control Panel after you connect the video camera to a Windows Vista-based computer

SYMPTOMS
After you connect your video camera to a Windows Vista-based computer, you cannot see the video camera in the Scanners and Cameras item in Control Panel. This behavior differs from the behavior of Microsoft Windows XP.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) driver that is included in Windows XP is not included in Windows Vista.
MORE INFORMATION
The WIA driver that is included in Windows XP uses a Microsoft DirectShow still image capture filter to capture still images. The WIA driver is designed to enable users to capture low-resolution still images from low-resolution webcams. Additionally, the WIA driver is not intended to function together with high-resolution camcorders that are connected to the computer through a 1394 port. However, some high-resolution camcorders do work with the WIA driver to capture low-resolution still images.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
