Error message when you try to send an e-mail message in Workflow in Microsoft Forecaster: "'8004020f'/frxforecaster/utilities/Notify.asp, line 154"

Symptoms
When you try to send an e-mail message in Workflow in Microsoft Forecaster, you receive the following error message:

Cause
This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
  • Incorrect Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) information is set in the registry. See resolution 1 in the "Resolution" section.
  • Microsoft Forecaster is configured to use the wrong SMTP service. See resolution 2 in the "Resolution" section.

Resolution 1

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

Change the SMTPServer registry subkey. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\FRxSoftware\FRxForecaster\6.7\Web Server\SMTPServer
  3. Double-click SMTPServer.
  4. Change the value in the Value data box to be the valid name or IP address of the server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server, and then click OK.

Resolution 2

Change the Approve.asp page and the Notify.asp page. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Locate the Approve.asp file in the Utilities folder of the Microsoft Forecaster installation.
  2. Right-click the Approve.asp file, point to Open With, and then click Choose Program.
  3. In the Open With dialog box, select Notepad, and then click OK.
  4. In Notepad, click Edit, and then click Find.
  5. In the Find What box, type CDOSENDUSINGPORT, and then click Find Next.
  6. In the CDOSENDUSINGPORT line, replace "= 1" with "= 2."
  7. Locate the Notify.asp file in the Utilities folder of the Microsoft Forecaster installation.
  8. Right-click the Notify.asp file, point to click Open With, and then click Choose Program.
  9. In the Open With dialog box, select Notepad, and then click OK.
  10. In Notepad, click Edit, and then click Find.
  11. In the Find What box, type CDOSENDUSINGPORT, and then click Find Next.
  12. In the CDOSENDUSINGPORT line, replace "= 1" with "= 2."
