Error message when you try to install the Microsoft SoftGrid Virtual Application Server: "The specified object_name ('SQLServer:Databases') does not exist"

SYMPTOMS
When you try to install the Microsoft SoftGrid Virtual Application Server, the installation fails. Additionally, you receive following error message:
The installation program encountered an error when attempting to execute a database statement. The specified object_name ('SQLServer:Databases') does not exist.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the "SQLServer:Databases" performance counter is not installed. The SoftGrid Virtual Application Server installation requires that the "SQLServer:Databases" performance counter is installed on the computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server.
RESOLUTION
To verify that the "SQLServer:Databases" performance counter is installed, follow these steps:
  1. Open Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Performance in Administrative Tools.
  2. Click System Monitor.
  3. On the toolbar, click Add.
  4. Click the list for Performance object.
  5. Verify that SQLServer:Databases is listed.
If the performance counter is not listed, follow these steps to install the SQL Server performance counters:
  1. In SQL Server, open a command prompt.
  2. Move to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn directory.
  3. Type lodctr.exe sqlctr.ini.
  4. Stop and then start the MSSQLSERVER service.
