When you add a monitor to a Windows-XP based computer, you may experience any of the following symptoms:
The computer restarts automatically.
After you log on, you receive the following error message:

We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Microsoft Windows. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.
If the error message still appears and if you want to see the data that the error report contains, click the click here link at the bottom of the message box. Then, you see error signature information that may resemble one of the following signatures:
When you view the System log in Event Viewer, you may notice an Event ID 1003 entry with information that resembles one of the following entries:

The four parameters that are included in the error signature information (BCP x) and inside the parentheses of the technical information for the Stop error may vary according to the computer's configuration.
Not all Stop 0x000000D5 or Stop 0x000000D6 errors are caused by the problem that is described in this article.
This problem occurs on Intel-based computers that are running Windows XP. If a CRT monitor is plugged into the computer after a television has been plugged into the computer, this error occurs.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
