Consider the following scenario. You have a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4). You use the Windows Update (WU) agent to install updates on this computer from one of the following sources:
Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
In this scenario, the computer may stop responding when the Windows Update agent tries to shut down the computer after the updates are installed.
Note The Windows Update agent is also known as the Automatic Updates (AU) service.
To resolve this problem, download the latest version of the Windows Update agent by clicking one of the following links as appropriate for the computer's operating system.
Download the WindowsUpdateAgent30-ia64.exe package now. If you are using the latest version of WSUS, the latest Windows Update agent is included in the self-update tree on the WSUS server. Client computers will receive the latest Windows Update agent when they connect to the WSUS server.
