When you try to configure backup options for a computer in Windows Home Server, you may receive the following error message:
The computer cannot be contacted. Make sure the computer is on and connected to the network and try again.
This problem occurs when the computer that is running Windows Home Server cannot communicate with the client computer.
To resolve this problem, make sure that the following conditions are true:
- The client computer is turned on, and Windows has started.
- The client computer is connected to the network. For example, the client computer has a network adapter, and a network cable connects the computer to the network switch or to the hub.
- The network switch or the hub is turned on and connected to the network. For example, network cables from the switch connect to the Windows Home Server-based computer and to the client computer.
