In an Active Directory domain, you set up a Distributed File System (DFS) share on a domain controller. This DFS share is fault-tolerant and domain-based.
You use Group Policy settings to redirect the My Documents folders of the users in the domain to this DFS share.
You make the My Documents folders on the client computers available offline.
You log on to the domain through a Windows XP-based client computer that has network connectivity.
You suspend (S3) or hibernate (S4) the client computer.
Note When the client computer is suspended or hibernated, connectivity to the Internet continues. However, the connection to the domain controller is discontinued.
After you resume the client computer in this scenario, you cannot open the My Documents folder. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
\\domain_name\DFSRoot\Share\Username\My Documents is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied.
This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
No drive is mapped to the DFS share that is being used for redirection of the My Documents folder.
The DFS Partition Knowledge Table (PKT) is flushed after the client computer resumes from hibernation.
After the issue occurs, you must restart the client computer.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To apply this hotfix, you must have Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed.
You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

To use this hotfix, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.
The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

If there are many domain controllers in the domain, and if many mapped drives are set up, you may experience a long delay when you start Windows Explorer. To work around this delay, flush the PKT cache. To do this, use the Dfsutil.exe utility together with the /pktflush parameter.
