The task sequence does not run on the protected branch distribution points in System Center Configuration Manager 2007

This article has been archived. It is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
Symptoms
Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007, you advertise a task sequence that includes an "install software" step to install two packages. The Make this package available on protected distribution points when requested by clients inside the protected boundaries option is enabled on the packages. Additionally, the Download content locally when needed by running task sequence option is enabled in the advertisement. In this scenario, the task sequence does not run on the protected branch distribution points. Instead, the task sequence runs on the regular distribution points.

Additionally, you experience problems when you use a branch distribution point with an operating system deployment that is initiated by boot media or by a Pre-Boot Execution Environment (PXE) image. The content request will not return any branch distribution points.
Cause
This problem occurs because the task sequence incorrectly filters the protected branch distribution points.

Apply the hotfix package

Notes
  • The installation process prompts you to create a package and a program so that you can distribute the hotfix to your existing clients. Creating the default package and program is optional. If you accept this prompt, the package will be named "KB942700 - Advanced Client Hotfix - <SiteCode>" and the program will be named "KB942700 - Advanced Client Patch Install".
  • Apply this hotfix on the site servers, and then use SMS software distribution to update the existing SCCM clients. To distribute the updated Advanced Client, use one of the following methods:

    Method 1
Use SCCM software distribution to update the existing Advanced Client.

    Method 2
Use Client Push Installation to update the existing Advanced Client. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open the SMS Administrator Console.
    2. In SMS Administrator Console, expand Systems Management Server, expand the node that corresponds to the site database, and then expand Collections.
    3. Under Collections, right-click the collection to which you want to apply the new advanced client, point to All Tasks, and then click Install Client.
    4. Complete the steps in the Client Push Installation Wizard.
Note For the hotfix that is available to Operating System Deployment clients, follow these steps:
  1. Update all boot images on all distribution points that are being used. This includes the SMSPXEIMAGES$ for PXE-initiated deployments.
  2. For operating system deployments that are initiated by using boot media, re-create the boot media after the distribution points are updated. To do this, right-click the task sequences node under operating system deployment, and then select Create Task Sequence Media.
