Contacts appear as offline when you use instant messaging with Windows Mobile 6

SYMPTOMS
Your instant messaging contacts appear offline while you are signed in to Windows Live on Windows Mobile 6.
RESOLUTION
Microsoft has released a hotfix for Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0. This update includes a fix for the Windows Live for Windows Mobile Messenger application.
Note This update is intended only for use with Windows Mobile 6.0 and only for the issue described in this article.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Installation information

To apply this hotfix, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Use Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center
To apply this hotfix by using ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center, follow these steps:
  1. Connect the Windows Mobile 6-based device to the computer by using ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center.
  2. On the computer, download the hotfix. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

    DownloadDownload the WLM_KB943824.exe package now.

    Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
  3. In the File Download - Security Warning dialog box, click Run.
  4. After the installation starts, examine the Windows Mobile 6-based device when you are prompted.
  5. When you receive the following message, restart the Windows Mobile 6-based device:
    Windows Live (KB943824).cab was successfully installed on the device
Method 2: Download and apply this hotfix directly on the Windows Mobile 6-based device
To download and apply this hotfix directly on the Windows Mobile 6-based device, follow these steps:
  1. On the Windows Mobile 6-based device, download this hotfix. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

    DownloadDownload the WLM_KB943824.cab package now.
