Software updates cannot be deployed if the software update catalogs that are imported by System Center Updates Publisher 3.0 contain a /qn switch in the command line

This article has been archived. It is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
Consider the following scenario:
  • You use Microsoft System Center Updates Publisher (SCUP) 3.0 to import software update catalogs.
  • You use both Microsoft Windows Software Update Services (WSUS) and System Center Configuration Manager 2007 to deploy software updates.
  • The command line of the imported catalog contains a /qn switch for Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) updates or for Windows Installer patch (MSP) updates.
In this scenario, the software updates cannot be deployed successfully. Additionally, WSUS may report that the command line is invalid.
After you apply this hotfix, SCUP will automatically remove the /qn switch or the -qn switch from the command line for MSI updates and for MSP updates during the import process. Then, SCUP and WSUS will be able to deploy MSI updates and MSP updates.

After you apply this hotfix, you must republish your updates in WSUS.
