Error messages after you install the Zune software: "Zune.exe .NET Framework Initialization Error: mscorwks.dll could not be loaded" and "Cannot connect to marketplace"

SYMPTOMS
After you install the Zune software, you receive the following error message:
Zune.exe .NET Framework Initialization Error: mscorwks.dll could not be loaded
Then, you receive a second error message:
Cannot connect to marketplace.

Windows XP

If you experience this problem on a Windows XP-based computer, follow these steps:
  1. To repair the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 software on the computer, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
    3. In the Add or Remove Programs window, click Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, and then click Repair.
    4. Click Yes to repair the .NET Framework 2.0 software.
  2. Install the .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1). To do this, click one of the following links:
