Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package: February 26, 2008

This article describes the Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 post-Service Pack 3 issue that is fixed in the Windows SharePoint Services 2003 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated February 26, 2008.

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix fixes the following issue that is not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • On a client computer that has Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed, a user is a site administrator of a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 site. However, the user is not in the local administrator group on the Windows SharePoint Services server. In this situation, the user may experience one of the following symptoms on the Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 site:
    • The user cannot refresh the XML data by using the Data Retrieval services.
    • The user receives an "Access Denied" error message when the user tries to open a Web page that contains a Data View Web Part.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 SP3 must be installed before you apply this hotfix.
