This Communicator 2005 hotfix rollup package is the publicly available requirement for interoperability with Communicator 2007 R2 and Communication Server 2007 R2. If you have already updated your Communicator 2005 to build 1.0.559.218 or higher, you already have the required fixes for interoperability.
You must apply hotfix 950614 on the Live Communications Server 2005 before you apply this hotfix.
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

There is an update to the authentication protocol that Live Communications Server 2005 and its clients (Office Communicator 2005) use. This update requires a signature in all messages. This requirement includes the first message that carries the challenge response. The version number of the protocol that is advertised in the challenge response is now version 2. Challenge responses that use version 2 of the protocol must contain a signature. The signature is a digest of the identifying headers in the message that is calculated by using the session key. Additionally, to make sure that all other clients work effectively with this update, the following hotfixes must be installed on the servers:
