Error message when you try to import a CSV file into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0: "The source data is not in the required format"

Symptoms
When you try to import a comma separated values (CSV) file into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you receive the following error message:
The source data is not in the required format.
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You create a data import map for an entity that contains lookup type fields.
  • The field mapping for the lookup type fields is not created.
  • You save the data import map as a CSV file. Then, you try to import this file into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
Resolution
