The target server cannot download a multiserver job from the master server if the target server is running a German version or a French version of SQL Server 2005 or a German version of SQL Server 2008 R2

Extended support for SQL Server 2005 ended on April 12, 2016

If you are still running SQL Server 2005, you will no longer receive security updates and technical support. We recommend upgrading to SQL Server 2014 and Azure SQL Database to achieve breakthrough performance, maintain security and compliance, and optimize your data platform infrastructure. Learn more about the options for upgrading from SQL Server 2005 to a supported version here.

SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a multiserver environment that contains a target server and a master server. The target server is running a German or French version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or a German version of SQL Server 2008 R2.
  • On the master server, you create a multiserver job.
In this scenario, the target server cannot download the multiserver job. Additionally, an error message that resembles the following is logged in the SQL Server Agent log (Sqlagent.out) on the target server:
- Fehler, [298] SQLServer-Fehler: 102, Falsche Syntax in der Nähe von '%'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (DownloadMSXInstructions).
- Fehler, [298] SQLServer-Fehler: 102, Falsche Syntax in der Nähe von '0xf2cd03d68967b44caaf3bb311c512703'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (ProcessJobMSXInstruction).
- Erreur, [298] Erreur SQLServer : 105, Unclosed quotation mark before the character string ', 16, 1, @msx_version) END'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (DownloadMSXInstructions)

Note
The SQL Server Agent log is located in the same folder as the errorlog of the SQL Server. See description of parameter "-e" in the topic "sqlservr Application" in SQL Books Online for more details.
