Warning message when you build a Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device project for the ARMv4 platform: "Warning C4819: The file contains a character that cannot be represented in the current code page (x)"
You use Visual C++ 2005 to develop a Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device project for the ARMv4 platform. When you build the project, you receive the following warning message in the Output window:
Warning C4819: The file contains a character that cannot be represented in the current code page (x). Save the file in Unicode format to prevent data loss. After the compilation, data loss occurs on the source files of the project.
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- A source file of the project contains multibyte-character set (MBCS) characters.
- The language of the system locale of the developing environment and the language of the MBCS characters are the same.
- This problem does not occur if you use Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Visual C++ 2008.
- The x placeholder in the warning message is a placeholder for the code page. The MBCS characters belong to this code page.
This problem occurs because the ARMv4 compiler that is provided by Windows Embedded CE 6.0 incorrectly recognizes the MBCS characters.
