You have a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2. After you start the computer by using the installation DVD that has been provided by the computer manufacturer, the Repair your computer option is not displayed. Additionally, you cannot start the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE).
This problem occurs because the Install Now screen may not be displayed automatically if an answer file contains the product key information.
To use the installation DVD to start Windows Recovery Environment, follow these steps:
Use the installation DVD to start the computer, and then run Windows Vista Setup, Windows Server 2008 Setup, Windows 7 Setup, or Windows Server 2008 R2 Setup.
When the Gather Information screen is displayed, press SHIFT+F10 to open a Command Prompt window.
Type the following commands to start Windows Recovery Environment. Press ENTER after each command.
