The engine download process is reported as a time-out, and the new engine is not accepted in Antigen 9.0 for Exchange with Service Pack 1

SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
  • In Microsoft Antigen 9.0 for Exchange with Service Pack 1, you set the time-out interval for the engine download process to n seconds.

Note By default, the time-out interval is 300 seconds.
  • You use Antigen to download the engine. However, the download process is not complete by the time that n seconds have elapsed.
  • Antigen waits five more seconds after n seconds have elapsed, and then Antigen evaluates the download process.

Note For more information about how Antigen handles a time-out in the engine download process, see the "More information" section.
  • The download process continues and finishes before another n seconds have elapsed.
In this scenario, the engine download process is reported as a time-out, and the new engine is not accepted.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, install Hotfix Rollup 3 for Antigen 9.0 for Exchange Service Pack 1.

For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
950791 Description of Hotfix Rollup 3 for Antigen 9.0 for Exchange Service Pack 1
Note Before you install Hotfix Rollup 3 for Antigen 9.0 for Exchange Service Pack 1, you must have Antigen 9.0 for Exchange with Service Pack 1 installed.

Note After you apply this hotfix, a time-out for the engine download process may still occur for other reasons.
MORE INFORMATION
By design, Antigen uses the following procedure to handle a time-out in the engine download process.

Note In this procedure, the time-out interval is set to n seconds.
  • Antigen starts the download process.
  • If the download process is not complete by the time n seconds have elapsed, Antigen waits five more seconds and then evaluates the download process.
    • If the download process has not progressed in those five seconds, the download process is reported as a time-out.
    • If the download process has progressed in those five seconds, the download process continues. Antigen evaluates the download process every five seconds until another n seconds has elapsed (for a total of 2n seconds).
      • If the download process is not complete before 2n seconds have elapsed, Antigen reports a time-out, and the download process is canceled.
      • If the download process is complete before 2n seconds have elapsed, Antigen should accept the new engine.

Note The issue that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section occurs in this step.
