WORKAROUND

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1.
MORE INFORMATION
The repair process tries to maintain the current state of the TCP protocol and the Named Pipes protocol.

If the repair process cannot do this because of a missing or incorrect value, the process will enable the TCP protocol and the Named Pipes protocol when it repairs a clustered SQL Server installation. This behavior occurs regardless of the edition of SQL Server. If the instance of SQL Server is not clustered, the repair process configures the state of the TCP protocol and the Named Pipes protocol according to the default values for that edition of SQL Server.
