You cannot set the Delete behavior to "Remove Link" or to "Restrict" for a custom relationship between two custom entities in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

This article has been archived. It is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
Symptoms
When you configure a custom relationship between two custom entities in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you set the fields in the Relationship Behavior area as follows:
  • Type of Behavior: Configurable Cascading
  • Assign: Cascade all
  • Share: Cascade all
  • Unshare: Cascade all
  • Reparent: Cascade all
  • Delete: Remove Link or Restrict
However, after you save the custom relationship, this configuration is changed unexpectedly to the following configuration:
  • Type of Behavior: Parental
  • Assign: Cascade all
  • Share: Cascade all
  • Unshare: Cascade all
  • Reparent: Cascade all
  • Delete: Cascade all
You notice that the Type of Behavior field is changed to Parental from Configurable Cascading. And, the Delete field is changed to Cascade all from Remove Link or from Restrict. This issue occurs when the other behaviors are set to Cascade All. Therefore, you cannot set the Delete behavior to Remove Link or to Restrict for a custom relationship between two custom entities.
