FIX: The result for the Sum or Count function returns an empty value when you query a SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services cube

Bug #: 50003238 (SQL Hotfix)
Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You query a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services cube. The query contains a NON EMPTY clause and requests two measures. The value of the Aggregate Function property for one of the measures is set to LastNonEmpty. The value of the Aggregate Function property for the second measure is set to Sum or Count. In this scenario, the result for the Sum or Count function returns an empty value.
RESOLUTION
The fix for this problem was first released in Cumulative Update 1. For more information about how to obtain this cumulative update package for SQL Server 2008, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Note Because the builds are cumulative, each new fix release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release. We recommend that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains this hotfix. WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Do not include the NON EMPTY clause in the query.
  • Set the following SQL Server property in the Msmdsrv.ini file:
    <DisableCalcExpressNonEmpty>1</DisableCalcExpressNonEmpty>
This file is located in the \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Config directory.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
