FIX: Error message when you call a stored procedure that returns a rowset which has the DBPROP_MAXROWS rowset property or the SSPROP_MAXBLOBLENGTH rowset property specified: "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) protocol stream is incorrect"

Extended support for SQL Server 2005 ends on April 12, 2016

If you are still running SQL Server 2005 after April 12, 2016, you will no longer receive security updates and technical support. We recommend upgrading to SQL Server 2014 and Azure SQL Database to achieve breakthrough performance, maintain security and compliance, and optimize your data platform infrastructure. Learn more about the options for upgrading from SQL Server 2005 to a supported version here.

SYMPTOMS
You create an application that uses SQL Native Client OLE DB provider of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 of or Microsoft SQL Server 2008. In the application, you create a rowset, and then set the DBPROP_MAXROWS rowset property or the SSPROP_MAXBLOBLENGTH rowset property. When you call a stored procedure to return the result to the rowset, you may receive the following error message:
The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) protocol stream is incorrect. The stream ended unexpectedly.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the call to the stored procedure is a remote procedure call (RPC). During the RPC, the DBPROP_MAXROWS rowset property or the SSPROP_MAXBLOBLENGTH rowset property causes an error.
