Symptoms

On a Windows Server 2008-based computer that has the Hyper-V role installed, you open the Hyper-V manager console to manage virtual machines. After you do this, Windows Server 2008 restarts unexpectedly. Additionally, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

Notes

  • The parameters in this Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.

  • Not all "0x000000E3" Stop error messages are caused by this problem.

When this issue occurs, the following events may be logged in the System log:

Cause

This issue occurs because the Redirected Driver Buffering SubSystem (Rdbss.sys) driver uses an incorrect method to acquire or release resources.
