FIX: The profiling process may crash when you use the instrumentation method to profile an application by using Visual Studio 2005 SP1 on a computer that has .NET Framework 4.0 installed

SYMPTOMS
You use the instrumentation method to profile an application by using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1). The profiling process may crash if your computer has .NET Framework 4.0 installed.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of an the incompatibility between .NET Framework 4.0 and Visual Studio 2005 SP1.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
