Consider the following scenario. You run Windows 2000 as a Guest Operating System in a virtual machine on Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V, and install the Integration Services in the Guest Operating System.
You may experience shut down times of five minutes or more. Also, you may see the following in the System Event Log:
Event Type: Warning Event Source: WMI Event Category: None Event ID: 54 Description: The description for Event ID ( 54 ) in Source ( WMI ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: \Device\WMIServiceDevice. Data: 0000: 00000000 00500001 00000000 80040036 0010: 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 0020: 00000000 00000000
The Integration Service drivers cause I/O Request Packets (IRPs) to be orphaned, which time out after five minutes. Shut down should continue normally after the IRPs have been retired.
Disabling the WMI service or not installing the Integration Services should resolve the issue.
Alternatively, you can wait for the shut down to complete; this may take five minutes or more.
