FIX: Transactions remain active for a long time when you use a WCF-based adapter in BizTalk Server 2006 R2

Consider the following scenario:
  • In Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2, you use a WCF-based adapter that uses custom channels or a WCF-based adapter in BizTalk Adapter Pack 2.0.
  • The IRequestChannel method fails with an exception.
In this scenario, any transactions remain active for a long time, even though you received the exception.

Note To identify whether you are encountering this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services.
  3. Expand Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, click Distributed Transaction Coordinator, and then click Transaction List.
  4. In the Transaction List, monitor the transactions to see whether any transactions remain active beyond your specified transaction timeout period.

    Note By default, the transaction timeout period is 60 seconds.
This problem occurs because of an error in the Microsoft.BizTalk.Adapter.Wcf.Runtime.dll assembly that prevents the timely disposal of failed transactions.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. You must have Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2 installed to apply this hotfix.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
