INTRODUCTION

This article discusses how to install and configure the OLE for Point of Sale (OPOS) drivers for the MagTek USB Mini Magnetic Stripe Reader in Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) Store Operations.

To set up and configure the OPOS drivers for the MagTek USB Mini Magnetic Stripe Reader so that it can be used in Microsoft Dynamics RMS Store Operations, follow these steps:

  1. Download the MagTek USB Swipe & Insert Reader driver installation from the following MagTek Web site and save it to an easily found location:
    http://www.magtek.com/support/software/demo_programs/usb_swipe_insert.asp

  2. Double-click the 99510026.exe installation file.

  3. Accept all the default settings during the installation.

  4. Click Start, click All Programs, click MagTek, and then click MagTek USBMSR Demo.

  5. Click Load file and select Change to Hid.txt from the C:\Program Files\MagTek\USBMSR folder.

  6. Close the Window.

  7. Download the MagTek USB (HID) Swipe Reader driver installation from the following MagTek Web site and save it to an easily found location:
    http://www.magtek.com/support/software/programming_tools/drivers/usb_hid_swipe.asp

  8. Double-click the 99510069.exe installation file. Then, unzip the installation files to the hard disk.

  9. Double-click the Win2KXP folder.

  10. Right-click MTHIDSR.inf and then click Install.

  11. Click Start, and then click Run.

  12. Type MTHIDCFG to open the configuration utility and then click OK.

  13. Select an available port from the Configuration Utility and then select OK.

  14. Restart the computer.

  15. Attach the Magtek MSR device to any USB port.

  16. Download the MagTek MTD and OPOS driver installation from the following MagTek Web site and save it to an easily found location:
    http://www.magtek.com/support/software/programming_tools/drivers/mtd_opos.asp

  17. Double-click 99510013.exe installation file. Then, unzip the installation files to the hard disk.

  18. Double-click Setup.exe in the unzipped Disk1 folder to start the installation.

  19. During the installation, accept the default settings except when you are prompted to select the features to install. You must select the OPOS support and Port-Powered swipe reader options.

  20. In the MagTek MTD Configuration Utility window, set the Friendly Name to be Port-powered swipe reader and the Virtual Port to be the port that you assigned in step 13.

  21. Click Configure, select the Physical Port to USB, and then click OK.

  22. Click Finish.

  23. Restart your Computer.

  24. Click Start, and then click Run.

  25. Type cmd, and then click OK.

  26. Type the following commands one by one followed by pressing the Enter key:

    CD C:\Program files\Magtek\Mtdinstall

    Omtdcfg –c 0x01

    Omtdcfg -l
  27. Verify that the MagTek devices configured for MSR device class is set to Port-powered swipe reader (Port-powered swipe reader RS-232), and then click OK.

  28. Click Start, and then click Run.

  29. Type the following command and then click OK

    regsvr32 OMTDMSR.ocx
  30. Click OK when you are prompted with the following message box:

    DLLRegisterServer in OMTDMSR.ocx succeeded.

  31. Restart your computer.

  32. Click Start, and then click Run.

  33. Type C:\Program Files\MagTek\MTDInstall\MSRExample.html, and then click OK to open the Magtek VBScript Example.

  34. Click Open/Claim/Enable.

  35. Click Yes in the ActiveX control dialog box.

  36. Swipe a card that contains a magnetic strip through the reader.

  37. Verify the Magnetic Stripe Data appears in the Track 1 Data, Track 2 Data, and Track 3 Data boxes.

  38. Click Close.

  39. Double-click the "MFCClient4CO.exe" file in the following folder to open the MSR QA Tester window:
    C:\Program Files\MagTek\MTDInstall

  40. Select Port-Powered swipe reader.msr and then click Open.

  41. Swipe the card and the data must be displayed as follows:

    <Swipe Card Anytime>

    Track 1: B^SUPERVISOR2^

    Track 2: 9227346343000050=496052
  42. In Store Operations Manager, on the Database menu, point to Registers, and then click Register List.

  43. Select a register and then click Properties.



  44. Click the MSR tab.

  45. Mark the Magnetic stripe reader is enabled for this register, type Port-Powered swipe reader.msr in the OPOS device name field, and then click OK.

  46. Restart Store Operations POS.
