This article describes the Microsoft Office Word 2007 issues that are fixed in the hotfix package that is dated February 24, 2009.
Issues that this hotfix package fixes
You open an e-mail message that you received in Outlook 2007. However, when you try to view the contents of the message by clicking the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW key, the key does not work.
When you open a Word 2007 document that was created in an earlier version of Word, the numbered list in the document disappears.
If you add a StyleRef field to the header of a Word 2007 document, and then you add a digital signature to the document, the StyleRef field is displayed incorrectly in the header.
When you use Word 2007 to open a read-only document from a document library on a SharePoint site, you cannot print the document if the following conditions are true:
The document contains a table of contents.
The Update fields before printing option for the document is enabled.
In Word 2007, you open a document that contains a single paragraph that includes an inline content control, such as a Rich Text control or a Text control. Then, you switch to Design Mode to see the inline content control in the document. When you click inside the content control and then press ENTER in this situation, the content control disappears.
In a Word 2007 document, you apply to the text a custom numbering style that contains an em space or an en space. When you copy and then paste the text to a new document in another instance of Word 2007, the text is not displayed correctly.
Consider the following scenario:
You insert a bookmark into the header or footer of a Word 2007 document. The bookmark is followed by a field in the header or footer.
You type text into the document.
You save the document in .docx format.
When you reopen the document in this scenario, the bookmark disappears from the header or footer.
When a Word 2007 document contains regions that are protected (read-only), you cannot apply highlighter formatting to text in the unprotected regions. In this case, the Text Highlight Color button is unavailable (appears dimmed).
Additionally, if you run a macro to apply the highlighter formatting, this formatting is not visible until you remove all document protection.
When a Word 2007 document contains regions that are protected (read-only), you encounter the following symptoms:
The Underline button on the Home tab does not work.
The drop-down arrow next to the Underline button still works.
The underline style gallery is missing from the drop-down list.
The More Underlines command that can be used to open the Font dialog box still works.
The Underline Color command remains available.
When you copy a Word 2007 table and then use the Paste Special command to paste the table into a blank PowerPoint 2007 slide as a Microsoft Office Word Object, some of the table gridlines are no longer visible.
When you try to save a Word 2007 document to a document library that contains custom content types, the Choose Document Type dialog box appears. However, if you press ESC to cancel this dialog box, and then you try to save the document again, Word 2007 becomes intermittently unresponsive.
In some cases when Word 2007 becomes unresponsive, you receive the following message:
Getting list of available content types
The Documents folder is the default save location for Word 2007 documents. However, assume that you set a custom location instead of using the Documents folder as the default save location. If the custom save location is unavailable, the location that is displayed in the Save As dialog box does not switch to the Documents folder as expected. Instead, the System32 folder is displayed unexpectedly in the Save As dialog box.
When you try to format multiple paragraphs by clicking the Format Painter button, only the first paragraph is formatted. Then, when you move the pointer to the next paragraph, the pointer is no longer a paint brush. This indicates that the Format Painter function is no longer available.
You install Word 2007 hotfix package that is discussed in KB 951997. After that, when you restart Word 2007 and then type the text in the main document, the text is unexpectedly shown as level 1 at the upper-left corner of the main document.
