When performing a Physical-to-Virtual (P2V) conversion with System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008, it may fail with the following error:
Verify that localhost is online and can be accessed from your computer. Then try to connect again.
Verify that the Virtual Machine Manager service on localhost is started, and then try to connect again. If the problem persists, restart the Virtual Machine Manager service.
This issue can occur if either the SCVMM server or source computer is running PowerPath version EMCPP.W2003_220.127.116.11.GA.exe + EMCPower.W2003_18.104.22.168.EF1.GA.exe. The underlying reason is that PowerPath returns an invalid character in the data stream to SCVMM resulting in an exception.
