Update to the latest version of Internet Explorer

Navigation bars and other content is missing from Publisher HTML output in Internet Explorer 8

Support for Office 2003 has ended

Microsoft ended support for Office 2003 on April 8, 2014. This change has affected your software updates and security options. Learn what this means for you and how to stay protected.

SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 and Office Publisher 2007 HTML output renders poorly in Internet Explorer 8. For example, navigation bars and other content are missing.
CAUSE
Publisher HTML output uses some very large numbers for object coordinates. This behavior has worked in the past. However, Internet Explorer 8 does not support such large coordinates. This is because some precision was moved from the most significant end to the least significant end of the coordinate variables to allow for sub-pixel layouts. Therefore, when large coordinate values in Publisher HTML output are run through Microsoft Dynamic HTML, the values are truncated. This behavior causes significant problems when Publisher HTML is rendered in Internet Explorer 8.
WORKAROUND

Method 1: Republish the Web site by using Publisher 2007 Service Pack 2.

Method 2:

The issue is specific to groups and does not affect ungrouped objects. Therefore, to work around this issue, ungroup any object that is missing from your HTML output when it is viewed in Internet Explorer 8, and then republish the HTML. To make sure that you work around the issue, you can ungroup all objects in Publisher before publishing.

Note Ungrouping may make it awkward to edit the publication. For example, in Publisher 2003, navigation bars may become "less smart" when you ungroup objects. Therefore, save a separate copy of the HTML before you ungroup objects.

How to ungroup objects

  1. Select the objects that you want to ungroup.
  2. In the lower-right corner of the selection rectangle, click Ungroup.

For Publisher 2003 users, please upgrade to Publisher 2007, and then install Publisher 2007 Service Pack 2.
Republish the Web site by using Publisher 2007 Service Pack 2.

Note Publisher 2007 Service Pack 2 is scheduled to release on April 28, 2009.

For Publisher 2003 users, please upgrade to Publisher 2007, and then install Publisher 2007 Service Pack 2.
