SYMPTOMS
You develop a macro to generate a document that contains a DocVariable field in Word 2003. The field is used to display a variable inside the document and the variable value contains carriage returns. When you save the file in the Open XML (.docx) file format, the carriage returns are lost.
RESOLUTION
To fix this problem, apply the following hotfix packages:
  • 970843 Description of the Word 2003 hotfix package (Winword.msp): June 30, 2009
  • 970942 Description of the Word 2007 hotfix package (Word.msp, Wordconv.msp): June 30, 2009
