FIX: The computed column is missing when you redeploy the project to a database in Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR

SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario in Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR:
  • You add a table that contains a computed column as the last column to a database project.
  • You deploy the project to a database.
  • You redeploy the project to the database.
In this scenario, when you view the table in the database, the computed column is missing.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the incremental deployment alters the table and drops the computed column, and then tries to alter the column to add a collation. However, Microsoft SQL server does not store the collation when the table is created for the first time because the collation matches the default collation of the database at that moment. Therefore, the collation is not added and the column is missing.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, upgrade to Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR R2. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
