FIX: An MDX query that uses the NON EMPTY clause and the DrillDownLevel function returns null values in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services or SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
  • In Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services, you have a cube that contains ROLAP partitions.
  • You run a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query to return data from a ROLAP table.
  • The MDX query uses the NON EMPTY clause and the DrillDownLevel function.
In this scenario, the MDX query returns null values. If you remove the NON EMPTY clause or the DrillDownLevel function, the query returns correct data.
