FIX: SNA Manager does not update the "User Name," "Client," and "Exe Name" columns when you view the active APPC LU status in Host Integration Server

Bug #: 623705 (VSTS)
In a Microsoft Host Integration Server environment, you open SNA Manager. Then, you expand the Local APPC LU node to view the status of the active Local Advanced Program-to-Program Communication (APPC) Logical Units (LUs). You notice that the status for an active Local APPC LU resembles the following:
Partner LUModeUser NameClientMode LimitExe Name
REMOTE1#INTER<Not In Use>n/a8n/a
REMOTE2#INTER<Not In Use>n/a8n/a

When a session is established for the first time over a Local APPC LU, the "User Name," "Client," and "Exe Name" columns contain information that identify the user who initiated that session, the name of the user’s computer, and the name of the application executable that is using the session. However, this information is never updated for any later APPC conversations that are started during the same APPC session.

Note The APPC LU status is updated to remove this information immediately after the initial conversation over the APPC session ends.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

After you apply this update, you can enable real-time status updates for APPC LUs in SNA Manager. To do this, add an UpdateStatus registry entry by following these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry key:
  3. Right-click Parameters, point to New, and then click String Value.
  4. Type UpdateStatus as the name of the registry key, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  6. In the Value data field, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Close Registry Editor.
Note For this change to take effect, you must restart the SNABASE service.

In environments that have many APPC LUs and many short-lived APPC transactions, the number of APPC LU status updates can be very high. In such environments, real-time status updates for APPC LUs may cause screen update issues when you view SNA Manager. If these issues occur, you may have to remove the UpdateStatus registry parameter to disable the real-time status updates for APPC LUs.
