Support for Office 2003 has ended

Microsoft ended support for Office 2003 on April 8, 2014. This change has affected your software updates and security options. Learn what this means for you and how to stay protected.

This article describes the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 issues that are fixed in the hotfix package that is dated June 30, 2009.

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

  • Consider the following scenario:
    • In Outlook 2003, the meeting organizer adds a new attendee into an instance of a recurring meeting series and then sends the update to all attendees.
    • The newly-added attendee forwards the request of that meeting instance to another user.
    • That user accepts the meeting request.
    • The organizer receives the meeting acceptance.
    In this scenario, in the organizer's Calendar, that user is added to every instance of the recurring meeting series unexpectedly.
  • In Outlook 2003, when a meeting attendee tries to respond to a meeting that does not have a meeting organizer, the attendee receives the following error message:
    You cannot respond to a meeting without an organizer. You must add an Organizer field to the item.
  • You open any one of the occurrences for a recurring meeting in Outlook 2003. When you try to open another occurrence for the recurring meeting, you receive the following error message:
    Cannot read one instance of the recurring appointment. Close any open appointments and try again, or recreate the appointment.
    When you close this error message, you receive an Open this occurrence dialog box or an Open the series dialog box.
  • In Outlook 2003, when you try to flag or to categorize selected items in a secondary mailbox, you receive the following error message:
    Could not open the item. Try again.
