In Microsoft BizTalk Server, you use Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) to monitor data about business processes. The BAM data is stored in the BAMPrimaryImport database. To optimize the performance in accessing the activity data over time, the BAM maintenance Data Transformation Services (DTS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages can be scheduled to run periodically. The BAM maintenance Data Transformation Services (DTS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages move data from the BAMPrimaryImport database into the BAMArchive database.
After you apply this hotfix, you can choose to clear the BAM data instead of having to archive the data to the BAMArchive database. In this manner, the BAM data does not occupymuch disk space.
To support clearing the BAM data from the BAMPrimaryImport database, an Archive column of the tinyint date type is added to the bam_Metadata_Activities table. When the field is set to "1", the BAM data is archived to theBAMArchive database when the BAM maintenance DTS and SSIS packages are executed. When it is set to "0", the BAM data iscleared after a specified time. To set a value for the Archive column, you can run the BAM Management Utility (bm.exe) as follows:
bm.exe set-archive -Activity:<BAM Activity> -ShouldArchive:False/True
To enable this feature, apply this hotfix by following the steps that are documented in the Readme.txt file that is contained in this hotfix package. To purge the BAM data, run the following command:
bm.exe set-archive -Activity:<BAM Activity> -ShouldArchive:False
To archive the BAM data, run the following command:
bm.exe set-archive -Activity:<BAM Activity> -ShouldArchive:True
