When attempting to install Windows Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP Service Pack 1-based or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1-based computer, you may receive the following error:
"Entry point to SHRegGetValueW procedure is not found in DLL library SHLWAPI.dll"
This issue occurs because Internet Explorer 8 is only supported on Windows XP Service Pack 2 or greater and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 or greater operating systems.
To resolve this issue, install Service Pack 2 to your Windows XP Service Pack 1-based or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1-based computer before you install Internet Explorer 8. Click the link below for your associated operating system to navigate to the download page and follow the instructions on that page to download and install the service pack.
Microsoft suggests installing all the latest updates and service packs to your windows based operating systems in order to be up-to-date on all the security and functionality updates.
