Error message when you try to make a connection in an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat client for the first time: "The domain_name domain is not available"

This article applies to the following product:
  • Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat client
SYMPTOMS
You use Group Policy to set the connection information for a Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat client. Then, when you try to make the connection in the Group Chat client for the first time, the connection fails. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
The domain_name domain is not available
After you exit the Group Chat client and then restart it, the connection succeeds.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Group Chat client ignores the value of the following registry key when you run the client for the first time:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\GroupChatConsole\LookupServerUri
After you restart the client, the value of this registry key is saved to the local preferences, and the Group Chat client then uses the value from that location correctly. Therefore, later connection attempts succeed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, apply the following update:
969818 Description of the update for Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Group Chat Client: July 2009
STATUS
